Data and computer communication

Data and computer communication, a computer is an electronic device for processing information or data. It has the ability to store, retrieve and process data.

You may be aware that you can use a computer to write documents, send e-mail, play games, and browse the web. You can also use it to edit or create spreadsheets, presentations, and even video files.

Hardware is any part of your computer that has a physical structure, such as a keyboard or mouse. It also includes all the internal parts of the computer, which you can see in the image below.

Software is any package of instructions that tells the hardware what to do and how to do it. Examples of software are web browsers, games, and word processors. Below, you can see an image of Microsoft's PowerPoint program, which is used to create presentations.

What are the different types of computers?

When most people hear the word computer, a personal computer such as a desktop computer or laptop comes to mind.

However, computers come in many shapes and sizes and perform many different functions in our daily life.

When withdrawing cash from an ATM and when scanning the groceries that you bought in the store, or using a calculator, etc., you use some type of computer.

Desktop computers

Many people use desktop computers at work, home, and school. Desktop computers are designed to be placed on or near the desk and for that reason, they are called desktops. They usually consist of a few different parts, including the computer case (case), the screen, the keyboard, and the mouse.

Laptop computers

The second type of computer that you may be familiar with is the laptop computer, and it is known among us as laptops. Laptops are battery-powered computers that are more portable than desktop computers, allowing you to use them almost anywhere.

Tablet devices

Tablet computers - or tablets - which are also computers but are handheld (handheld) and are easier to carry than regular laptops. Instead of a keyboard and mouse, tablets use a touch-sensitive screen to be able to write or switch between programs. The (iPad) tablet of Apple Inc. is one example of a tablet.

Server Computer (Server)

A server is a computer device that provides information to other computers connected over a network. For example, whenever you use the Internet, you are looking for information stored on a server computer. Many companies also use file servers to store and share files internally among employees.
