Decision support systems

Decision support systems, decision support systems have contributed to creating a kind of link between three main elements, which are the database and available information, quantitative models (mathematical, statistical, operations research) and between the decision-maker, whether an individual or group participates in the process of formulating it.

This type of system is closely related to the computer to enter major operations in the numbers and configuration of its information, which is either mathematical or otherwise. Therefore, this system played an important role in assisting, supporting, and rationalizing managers in their decisions to create this type of interconnection.

The concept of decision support systems:

Information and its systems play an important role in formulating decisions and ensuring that they fulfill the requirements of the decision-making process.

The developed information systems work to provide data in order to support the provision of the required data in order to support and manage the functions of the project programs to excel what it provides with accuracy, modernity, integrity, and brevity in presenting facts to be closely related to the problem to which it relates The decision is direct.

The computer plays an important role in the process of rationalizing decisions through software and mathematical and accounting operations, which can be accomplished quickly and accurately. Several auxiliary systems are associated with it, including decision support systems, and can be defined:

They are computer-based systems with the aim of providing assistance in making decisions related to semi-structural tasks, by combining database elements and quantitative models (statistical, mathematical, operations research) in addition to taking the decision-maker’s point of view.

The researchers differed in setting a specific definition of decision support systems, so we rarely find an information system that does not have a role to play in supporting and rationalizing the decision-making process, and the main reason is decision-making as it is considered the essence of the administrative process and then the type of problem plays a role in determining the method used to solve it.

Decision support systems

Characteristics of decision support systems

1- It assists decision-makers in implementing semi-structural tasks.

2- It depends on human-machine interaction by providing inquiries to obtain answers to a series of questions to present alternative scenarios to the decision-maker.

3- Decision support systems provide support to all administrative levels, especially senior management.

4- Decision support systems provide support in the field of independent decisions or dependent decisions that require a single decision to be taken in its entirety as a result of consultation and interaction between a group of people.

5- Information systems enable the decision-maker to find solutions to the problems under study and also choose a number of different solutions while preserving his primary activity, which is controlling and controlling the decision-making process.

6- Decision support systems combine databases with mathematical and statistical models.

7- Decision support systems provide the necessary support in the various stages of decision-making, starting with perception and problem identification to the stage of the final selection of the best alternatives.

8- Decision support systems must be flexible so that they can be modified to suit the surrounding conditions.
